Big Changes to My Website: Yes, artists should make a website!

Hi guys! 👋It's me~ AiTommy!

You might’ve noticed a lot of updates and new features popping up on my website lately. That’s because I’ve decided to make my website different from how it used to be. Let me tell you what inspired all these changes!

Why YOU Should Make a Website!

Recently, I watched a YouTube video called “Why You Should Make a Website”, created by LuvstarKei. It was a real eye-opener for me and so many other artists online working hard to grow their own Social media.

Like many artists, I’ve spent years focusing on growing my social media. And it worked—I grew my YouTube and Instagram to over 100k followers this year.

That’s a huge, huge achievement for me, let me tell ya... I was really lucky, of course, But at the same time, I’m proud of the effort I put into creating drawings and animatics to reach this milestone.

But then I thought: "What now?"

Yes, I can just go on and on growing my followers. But even with 100k followers, I can’t always reach all of them. Social media algorithms only show my work to a portion of my audience, and not every post can go viral. And to be honest... it's sometimes tiresome to keep up with all trends and stuff.

Also, they change the interface sometimes(Instagram... I still don't forgive you for taking away the guide feature), and it's hard for everyone to search for one single artwork from all the posts.

There are 568 posts on my Instagram rn... scrolling through my feed to find the specific post would be really hard

So, I realized I needed a place where I could connect with my audience directly and truly showcase my work in a way that’s 100% me. My website!

The Vision for My Website, Ai No Uta

I’ve decided to build my “main base” here—a space that feels lively, cute, cozy, and interactive. I want it to be like the ol' Cartoon Network and other kids-friendly websites I loved growing up (RIP, almost all of them are gone now… sob😢).

Here’s my plan:

  • You’ll find most of my artwork and comics here! Each genre has its own dedicated pages and content.

  • Eventually, I want to add games you can play for free, featuring my favorite characters! I'm trying to learn GDevelop right now.

  • I’ll keep building and adding little by little to make it a fun, creative space where you can hang out and enjoy.

This is a big project but I want to do it! The vision itself already makes me excited!!

A tip for fellow artists and creators

If you’re an artist of any kind, I’d seriously recommend making your own website, like LuvstarKei says in the video.

Social media is unpredictable and messy right now(I think I’ll stop posting on Twitter… I just can’t handle how hostile the environment has become lately...), so while it’s great to share your work on those platforms, having your own website gives you a stable, personalized space to showcase your art and connect with your audience.

I mean just look at it... sooooo cute OMG

I pay to run my website because I want to add a lot of features like having my own store, blog, and other stuff, but if you are not sure about investing your time and money in building your website, maybe Tumblr or other free website services would work for you.

If you need more features like having your own domain names and shops, you need to pay eventually, but you can start small and free!

I hope you’ll enjoy what I’m working on, come back often, and spend some time exploring my growing site. Stay tuned for more updates!

Have a great day, and see you in the next post! 🌟
